Kimberley Baxter
BPsychSc, GradDipPsych, MCPT, TORA Facilitator, APPTA
Hello I'm Kimberley, thank you for stopping by! I grew up in Cape Town, South Africa and have been living in Victoria, Australia for the last 12 years. This year I have started living and working in the UK! When I'm not playing in my professional life, I can be found snuggling with my two cats and curling up with a book. I love to travel and get do some arts and crafts.
I have completed my undergraduate studies with a Bachelor of Psychological Science, where I received Honours via the Graduate Diploma of Psychology. My postgraduate studies include completing a Master of Child Play Therapy. I am also a certified Teachers Optimal Relational Approach (TORA) Faciliator, which has given me the skills to provide training to the school community to support the mental health and wellbeing of students.
Throughout my qualified professional experience in the last three years, I have worked within the school communities and clinical settings. I have the privilege of working with a diverse range of children and families, supporting them in a safe, trusting and empathic way. My experience comprises of a range of presenting diagnoses or referral reasons including; Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder, trauma, early intervention (NDIS), grief/loss, history of family violence, separation and blended families, kinship care, anger, low self-esteem and social difficulties.
I am also Registered Play Therapist through APPTA (Australasia Pacific Play Therapy Association).
Up until 2021, I was volunteering as a crisis support worker with Lifeline Australia, a crisis support hotline. I spent 2 ½ years in this role, where I had the opportunity to work with people of different ages, backgrounds, and cultures. Whilst in this role, I developed an understanding of the various challenges that people are exposed to daily basis. This provided me with the skills to support those experiencing depression, addiction, family violence, trauma, and various other difficulties. As a crisis support worker I learnt to develop therapeutic relationships with people all across Australia in a short amount of time and use my training to support them in moments where they have felt helpless and uncertain of their next steps.
